In Lauderhill, Florida, Brittny Skinner and Kristopher Bieger both single parents, met in 2006, after Bieger was hired to join the force's road patrol where Skinner worked as a Lauderhill officer. Skinner and Bieger dated for a while, when just last week she broke it off. Officials say that that was the time when he tried to kill her, by emptying his .40-caliber pistol into her patrol car. As that night was coming to an end, Bieger begged fellow officers for just one more bullet so he could kill himself. Brittny Skinner's shirt and protective vest were left with bullet holes, she became traumatized and is on paid leave. Bieger is in jail on the charge of attempted-murder, is suspended without pay from his job.

Students of St. Mary's Move to a Cruise Ship by: Marcella Marquez
After an outbreak of mold, in two dorms of St. Mary’s College in Maryland students are relocated. The mold built up around ventilation pipes, from excess moisture after Hurricane Irene. This caused the dorms to be shutdown, and therefore made the students move to hotels miles from campus. Then college officials began to look for safer and closer options. With the suggestion of a student they soon moved 239 students and Ms. Fitzgerald to the 286-foot cruise ship, the Sea Voyager. Since the ship docked last Sunday it has attracted many students and visitors. Although the student have just moved in a week ago so to some delay. The students will be living on the ship until the semester is over, and their dorms on land have been cleaned completely. “The whole idea of a residential college is you don’t have to worry about where you live and where your next meal is coming from. You just study, and this has sort of interrupted that a little bit,” said Mr. Argo. After some complaints from student s and parent, who were worried of the relocating happening during midterm exams. Yet many students seem excited about living on a cruise ship, even some of them who were not affected by the mold tried to get rooms in the new dormitory. According to the NY times “The ship’s gift shop has been converted to an office for residence officials, the ballroom functions as a social lounge, and the pub as a coffee ship.” “It’s not super-extravagant, but it works,” said Ms. Fitzgerald. There are also some great advantages for the students, who get their linens and towels replaces twice a week. They also have laundry service, and share their bathroom with one other person as opposed to a whole floor of co-eds.

NBA rejects their owners
Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul rejected NBA owners' latest contract proposal, saying that they had felt the "collective bargaining process has completely broken down" and serving a "disclaimer of interest" This mean this will put the 2011-2012 season in trouble when no one can not decide and finished the deals and trade. The players said they don't feel prepared and also said it is unfair to give them a proposal or confront a rollback of 47%." There had been threats in the trade making things harder for the NBA. Now the NBA players have been locked out for 138 days.

National Weather Service:Six tornados touched down in Oklahoma on Monday
Last Monday the National Weather Service released a report saying a strong storm system produced six tornados in southwestern Oklahoma. There were no deaths or serious injuries reported on the storm outbreak. The report says that the twisters touched down between 2:45 and 5pm. It also says that the northwestern supercell produced the tornados over Oklahoma. Emergency responders said the Oklahoma State University extension office was heavily damaged and there was reported damage on trailers and farm equipment.
The 2011 tornado season has been the fourth deadliest in U.S. history. There were a total 549 deaths. The most deadly this year was the Joplin, Missouri tornado (May 22, 2011). With a total of 157 people losing their lives. It is ranked the 7th deadliest tornado in US history. It also may cost the state of Missouri upwards of 3 billion dollars to rebuild Joplin. The tornado was an EF5, which is the strongest and the most rare. Winds can reach 200 miles per hour and up. President Barack Obama toured the community on May 29, flying into Joplin Regional Airport and speaking at a memorial at the Taylor Performing Arts Center at Missouri Southern State University about two miles from the worst of the devastation.

Judge William Adams Wont be Charged for Beating by: Marcella Marquez
William Adams, a Texas family Judge who was videotaped by his daughter who he viscously beat won’t be facing criminal charges due to the 5 year statues of limitations. Hillary Adams 23, posted the 8 minute video on YouTube October 27, and it has over 5,821,939 views. The 7 year old video shows her father savagely lashing her with a belt, for downloading music and games. That were not available for legal purchase at the time. What makes matters worse is that Hillary has a disability called ataxic cerebral palsy form birth (damage in the cerebellum/brain). When asked why she waited 7 years to show the video, she responds that she was scared to do it while she lived under Adam’s roof. The judge’s wife is also seen in the video, what is surprising is that she does nothing about the situation and actually takes part in the beating. Hillary justifies this by saying (on the video description) that her mother “was emotionally abused herself and was severely manipulated into assisting the beating and should not be blamed for any content in this video… The judge's wife has since left the marriage due to the abuse, which continues to this day, and has sincerely apologized and repented for her part and for allowing such a thing, long before this video was even revealed to exist.” Hillary also adds “Judge William Adams is not fit to be anywhere near the law system if he can't even exercise fit judgment as a parent himself. Do not allow this man to ever be re-elected again. His "judgment" is a giant farce.” William Adams 51, then responded with a three page statement, in which he claims “his daughter posted the clip to get back at him for telling her he would be reducing the amount of financial support he gives her and taking away her Mercedes,” (huffingtonpost.com). There was no apology in said statement, but he did tell television station KZTV that the video "looks worse than it is, that he had already apologized to his daughter and that he was just disciplining his child for stealing,” (huffingtonpost.com) . But while on the “Today” show Hillary said her father “regularly beat her for a period of time. has repeatedly said she didn't post the clip to spite her father, and that she hopes it forces him to seek help,” Hallie Adams also “blamed her ex-husband's bouts of violence on an "addiction." She called it a "family secret," but declined to elaborate,” (huffingtonpost.com). Currently Judge Williams is being investigated by the state's judicial conduct commission and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. This is because all though Hillary is an adult, her10 year old sister could be at risk.
Waterbury Vt. still trying to recover from Irene
When Irene came and dumped what seemed like a huge amount of rain New England residents of the town. Nobody was prepared for the floods powers.
On the afternoon of August 28 2011 the floodwaters rose so quickly that people were forced to leave their homes and get to higher ground. When they came back they found water in their basements and the houses ruined by spilled heating oil.
More than two hundred houses were destroyed, about a third of the total homes destroyed in Vermont by Irene.
The smell is now gone and most homeowners are ready to build again. But there is a problem. Most homeowners don’t have flood insurance because floods are very rare in Vermont (last one was in 1927). Most families will not be able to afford getting their houses repaired.Steve and Amy Odefey are among the very fortunate. They had flood insurance on their 100-year-old house.
"I'll be a lot happier writing the premium check now," Steve Odefey says.
But the insurance will not cover the cost of their personal belongings. Also they will need to replace more parts in their house that the insurance will not cover.
After the floods went away, roads and bridges were rebuilt really quickly. But rebuilding homes takes a lot longer because you have to deal with permits and personal belongings, says Chris Nordle, a member of ReBuild Waterbury, a non-profit formed to help rebuild the town.
"When you're talking about 200 homeowners in a village of a couple thousand, you've got 200 little mini disaster-management programs going on," he says. "That's one of the things I have a hard time getting my head around."

High gas prices ruining Obama's re-election hopes
Gas prices have been rising and affecting not just Americans finances but the attitude towards the economy with it, it affects Obama's re-elections probability. ABC News posted a poll asking Americans opinions on the gas price increase. With gas prices up 26%; $3.88 a gallon, 7 in 10 Americans reported that they were having a financial hardship, 56% reported no hardship. 6 in 10 Americans say that they have decided to cut back on driving. Langer Research Associates, creators of the poll, found the president's job approval rating 13 points lower in the midst of people who said the gas prices are causing them hardship. Among 4 in 10 Americans feel serious hardship, only 39% of them approve of Obama's work. 53% of people who felt hardship said they will definitely now vote for Obama next year. Political support usually depends on economic performance, that is where the increase in gas prices are taking place. The number of Americans who say the economy is getting worse have doubled this year to 44% and is slowly rising to 54%.

Herman Cain accused of Sexual Harassment by:Marcella Marquez
Herman Cain, former CEO of God Father’s Pizza and a republican candidate of the 2012 presidential race; has accepted that he is aware of a payment made to a woman who accused him of sexual harassment in the 1990’s. Although earlier today he denied any knowledge on the case, he has made so many contradictory allegations that it is unclear whether he tells the truth or not. “My general counsel said this starts out where she and her lawyer were demanding a huge financial settlement… I don’t remember the number… But then he said because there was no basis for this, we ended up settling for what had been a termination settlement” were his words in an interview with Greta van Susteren. But earlier today he had said “If the restaurant association did a settlement, I wasn’t even aware of it and I hope it wasn’t for much.” He also told The National Press Club, “Number one in all of my 40 years of business experience… I have never sexually harassed anyone. Number two, while at the restaurant association I was accused of sexual harassment. Falsely accused, I might add. I was falsely accused of sexual harassment, and when the charges were brought, as the leader of the organization, I recused myself and allowed my general council and human resource officer to handle it.” Still Cain says the stories about him committing sexual harassment are “a witch hunt.”

US's most powerful Nuke Dismantled
The US’s last ultra powerful nuclear bomb has been dismantled. A weapon a hundreds of times stronger than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima is being disassembled nearly half a century after it was put into service at the height of the Cold War. The final components of the B53 bomb will be taken apart Tuesday at the Pantex Plant near Amarillo Texas, the nation's only nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly facility. The completion of the dismantling program is a year ahead of schedule, according to the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration, and aligns with President Barack Obama's goal of reducing the number of nuclear weapons in the US.
Thomas D'Agostino, the nuclear administration's chief, called the bomb's elimination a "significant milestone."
Put into service in 1962, when Cold War tensions peaked during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the B53 weighed 10,000 pounds and was the size of a minivan. According to the American Federation of Scientists, it was 600 times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, killing as many as 140,000 people and helping end World War II.
Since the B53 was made using older technology by engineers who have since retired or died, developing a disassembly process took time. Engineers had to develop complex tools and new procedures to ensure safety.
"We knew going in that this was going to be a challenging project, and we put together an outstanding team with all of our partners to develop a way to achieve this objective safely and efficiently," said John Woolery, the plant's general manager.
The plant will play a large role in similar projects as older weapons are retired from the U.S.'s nuclear arsenal.

NBA cancels games in November By Cheyenne Mello
The NBA lockout on Friday had failed again to generate an agreement, the league will cancel the rest of November's regular season games, basketball officials said.
"We made a lot of concessions, but this time, unfortunately, it's not enough," said by Executive Director Billy Hunter. He told reporters after a five-hour-plus meeting with NBA officials in New York.
Hunter said he felt "snookered," by Stern, who had promised Thursday to make a financial move Friday.
Hunter said the NBA wanted the players to move to 50% while accepting concessions on the salary cap/luxury tax arrangement that the union deemed prohibitive.

Obama loosing Hispanic votes
Obama has recently visited some Southern states to regain his hispanic votes. In 2008, Obama won 67% of Hispanics votes. The votes were crucial in the states of Nevada, Colorado and Florida. Bill Whitaker a political science professor in UC Riverside, also a political activist reports that many Hispanics have changed their minds. In 2006, Whitaker organized a massive demonstration demanding a path to citizenships for immigrants. Obama called for comprehensive immigration reform, "I will make it a top priority in my first year as president," stated Obama. This year Obama does not have Whitakers vote, why you may ask. "The issues of war, the issues of the economy. I feel deceived in immigration," says Whitaker. Under the Obama Administration of Massive Deportations, there has been 397,000 deportations as of September 2011. Less than 50% of Hispanics view Obama favorably. Latino's today are the most affected by the recession. Nation Wide Hispanic unemployment is at 11.3% two point higher than the National Average. "Mr. Obama can't count on Hispanics support in 2012. We still haven't seen a strategy to help the Latino's," says Arturo Vargas. Vargas is the executive director of the National Association of Latino Elected Officials. If many hispanics are disappointed in the president, they must be disgusted by the heated republican fight on immigration yet disgust with the GOP doesn't translate into support for Obama. "I think the greatest danger for the president is that Latino voters will not be as enthusiastic in 2012 as they were in 2008, and they may decide to sit out," says Arturo Vargas. To win Obama needs to inspire the level of support he got in 2008.

School Shooting in North Carolina by: Marcella Marquez
Last week a student was shoot at Cape Fear High School in North Carolina. The 15 year old victim was shot by two fellow students. The 18-year-old and 15-year-old male suspects wounded Abercrombie on the neck, with a .22 Daisy rifle, but she was in a stable condition after a surgery at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. According to the county sheriff she was standing outside her cafeteria when she was shot. The eldest suspect of the shooting is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, while the younger suspect will go to juvenile court. The cause of the shooting is still unknown, but it seems that 15-year –old Abercrombie was not the target. The suspects were caught on video, by a surveillance camera while they brought the weapon into the school. There are metal detectors at the high school, but the county sheriff said he did not know if they were used on a regular basis. What is a fact is that the High school and a neighbor middle school where locked down for hours, after the incident occurred. Additional staff will be present on Tuesday at both schools to help the officers on duty, but the schools are to operate as normal.

Perry doesn’t know Obama’s birth certificate is real? By Cheyenne Mello

Last month after dinning with Donald Trump,
The GOP presidential candidate was asked by Parade magazine if he believed that Obama was born in the United States.
"I have no reason to think otherwise," I don’t know”, he said.
Perry also said: "Well, I don't have an answer, because he's never seen my birth certificate.""But you've seen his,"
Obama did released a certificate of live birth during his 2008 campaign, but that did not convince some people, who questioned whether it was real. The White House has released the long-form version of his Hawaii birth certificate earlier this year, except for Donald Trump, who still isn’t convinced.

Ohio sheriff: NO regrets on killing 48 exotic animals.
A Zanesville Ohio sheriff doesn’t regret his decision on killing 48 exotic animals that were let lose on last Tuesday by Terry Thompson. Terry, 62 released the animals before killing himself late Tuesday. Sheriff Matt Lutz gave the controversial order.
"When I gave that order, I wasn't thinking about the animals," Lutz said. "I was thinking about the public and their safety. I know I would do nothing different today." Six of the animals were captured and taken to the Columbus Zoo the other 48 were killed. One monkey is presumed dead the other was killed by one of the big cats.
The story went international within a matter of days through the county of 86,000.
Lutz said that he and his dispatchers have received thousands of hate emails and phone calls. "Some people are being very hostile to my dispatchers and even me," Lutz said. "They're using profane language in some cases, but I believe that these people don't have all the facts."
Lutz said in his 23 years as a cop he had to deal with Thompson and had personal experience with the animals.
"I've been out there and walked past the pens and had those cats become aggressive," Lutz said. "I knew if those animals were running loose, they were out of control. If I had to do it over, I'd do the exact same thing.”
"It didn't have to happen, but that was a decision Mr. Thompson made," Lutz said.

California passes "Dream Act"
On Saturday, September 15th, governor Jerry Brown signed the second half of the two-part California Dream Act. The Dream Act will allow undocumented immigrants eligible for state-funded financial aid from all state universities that are part of the University of California and California State University systems, as well as from 112 California state community colleges. Texas and New Mexico have also passed the Dream Act. This controversial bill was passed in the democrat-dominated state legislature in September. In August, Illinois passed it's own version of the Dream Act which allows illegal students a chance to receive privately funded grants. Opponents of the Dream Act state that the law will not help California's pre-existing budget issues, which caused cuts in the education funding and created higher tuition at universities. "Going to college is a dream that promises intellectual excitement and creative thinking. The Dream Act benefits us all by giving top students a chance to improve their lives and the lives of all of us." Beginning on Jan. 1, 2013, immigrant students in California will be eligible to apply for state-funded financial aid and Cal Grants. Drug Smugglers Tunnel into Arizona parking lots.
Drug smugglers are getting even more creative everyday when it comes to smuggling marijuana, cocaine and other things from Mexico to the United States. In the latest development, law enforcement found smugglers in the border town of Nogales, Arizona bringing drugs into the U.S. for the cost of a quarter. The parking meters on International Street, which hugs the border fence in Nogales, cost 25 cents. Smugglers in Mexico tunneled under the fence and under the metered parking spaces, and then carefully cut neat rectangles out of the pavement. Then their partners on the U.S. would park false-bottomed cars over the spots where the pavement cut outs were. When they were done doing the drug transfer the smugglers would plug the “holes” with jacks. Only if you looked really closely could you see the cuts.
In all the U.S. Border Patrol found a total of 16 tunnels to the 18-metered parking spaces. The pavement now has little neat square patches in it.
"It's unbelievable," Nogales mayor Arturo Garino told Tucson, Arizona ABC affiliate KGUN. "Those are the strides these people take to get the drugs across the border."
Past methods of smuggling have included catapults that launch drugs across the border. "The [smugglers] have tried everything," said Garino, "and this is one of the most ingenious [methods] of them all.
The city, advised by Homeland Security, has agreed to remove the parking meters. Nogales stands to lose $8,500 annually in parking revenue, plus the cost of tickets.

Occupy Wall Street seems more like Occupy the US.
A protest movement formed in New York City to perceive others about big corporate profits, tax breaks for the rich, corporate lobbying in Congress, and bank bailouts in this tough economy, reached the opposite corner of the nation Saturday. This protest movement began about a month ago, and has inspired others around the country to protest as well. “It really speaks to everyone getting fed up and tired of these corporations taking every bit of money we’ve worked so hard for,” says Brandon German, a protest organizer with Right to the City, an alliance of community groups that helped organize an Occupy Wall Street rally in Boston on Friday. Protest have taken place, or have been planned in about 50 cities from San Francisco to Portland. More than 700 people were arrested on Saturday when protestors were marching across the Brooklyn Bridge. In Chicago, about 30 protestors beat drums in the city's financial district on monday October 3rd. The protest arrived in San Diego, on Saturday October 8th, groups of people gathered around the Children's Park in the Marina district then marched to the Civic Center Plaza at City Hall for a demonstration and a sit-on.
7 rescued in Florida Keys after 20 long hours by: Marcella Marquez
Last Sunday October 9th, seven of the eight people who were fishing in Florida Keys were found after 20 hours of being stranded. The party of family and friends set off Saturday Morning from Layton in the Middle Keys. The 22 foot boat that later capsized belonged to one of the people in the group. That days forecast predicted heavy rains and powerful winds, but “It could have been beautiful when they got under way and then turned quickly.” said Master Chief Petty Officer Charles Lindsey of the Coast Guard. The party dropped anchor not too far from Long Key Bridge in the Middle Keys. A windstorm then hit with winds up to 40 mph and swells of about 10 feet. The boat flipped on Saturday at around noon. On Sunday morning around 20 hour’s later Seaman Kendra Graves of the Coast Guard “got their first sighting of the missing party: a cluster of heads bobbing in the water, with something box-like floating with them.” (NY Times) The women and 4 year old child held on to a blue cooler that served as a life saver, luckily 2 of them where wearing life vests. The men held on to a portion of the boat that was not under water, they were close to 8 miles away from the women. “They were very lucky," said a Coast Guard rescuer, referring to the seven that were found. Unluckily an 80 year old woman mother of one of the women’s husbands was lost and is thought to be dead.

Tropical Storms spin in the pacific and more threaten the East
By Ryan Bockmier
Weather experts say tropical storm Jova is expected to become a hurricane in the next couple of days. The reason this hurricane is so special is because its origin is in the Pacific Ocean. Hurricanes usually appear in the Atlantic Ocean because of its warm waters. Some say the Atlantic is the perfect mix of water and wind for hurricanes.
Earlier Friday, Irwin strengthened to become the eighth hurricane of the eastern Pacific season. Late Friday both storms appeared to be far off the coast of Mexico
Irwin was moving west-northwest at about 8 mph, but current Doppler radar models show the storm could take a turn back toward the east and move toward land.
The same is the case with Jova. Who was moving northwest at about 8-mph. Current Doppler radar Models show it also could take a turn toward the northeast and possibly make landfall sometime next week over Mexico.
In the Atlantic, Hurricane Philippe was far off the U.S. coast and was not expected to threaten land. Also there is a possibly strong storm named Rina to hit Florida and move up the coast of the flood ravened mid Atlantic. It is expected to make landfall by the middle or end of next week.

He was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with no non-life threatening injuries. The third possible shooting involving a CHP officer stopped on the right shoulder of northbound I-805 near highway 163. In a fourth report, an ambulance may have also been fired upon while on northbound Interstate 5 near Del Mar Heights. These shootings caused the northbound 805 off-ramp to Mesa College, and the northbound Interstate 5 to close during the investigation. No reports have made since. Edited by Ryan Bockmier.
New laws discourage eligible voters By: Marcella Marquez
Last November 2010 Republicans won control of many state houses, and since then more than a dozen states have passed laws that require voters to show photo identification at the voting polls, cut back early voting periods, or establish new restrictions on voter registration drives. With the new presidential elections just around the corner, the question is how all of this is going to affect the 2012 race. Political Parties, state officials, and voting experts agree that the impact could be considerable. A recent study released yesterday by the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law, attempts to show how many voters will be affected. They concluded that the laws “could make it significantly harder for more than five million eligible voters to cast ballots in 2012.” This has turned into a very controversial topic. Republicans try justify their actions by saying that these new laws help prevent voter fraud. Democrats oppose stating that “these new laws are a solution in search of problems,” (NY times) for voter fraud is rare. They fear these new laws will discourage, or impede eligible citizens to vote. Senator Richard J Durbin, Democrat of Illinois, said the new laws “will make it harder for millions of disabled, young, minority, rural, elderly, homeless and low income Americans to vote.” (NY times)
Cassette tapes may have a short-lived comeback after mp3's .
Just as the editors of the Oxford English Dictionary thought they could remove the word “cassette tape” from the dictionary the outdated technology might be coming back. The over twenty-year-old technology is seeing a slight comeback as indie music companies are using it to get their music out quickly and inexpensively according to Rob Mason, the owner of Old Flame Records. The Brooklyn-based record company released the band Total Babes' album "Swimming Through Sunlight" on tape before the full-length album was released Aug. 30 on CD and vinyl. "From a music maker standpoint, I love it because they are very inexpensive to make," Mason said. "I can make 100 for not a very large investment. Especially compared to making vinyl — it's like a tenth of the cost."
As vinyl made records began to decline in the early 80’s, cassettes began to take over. The peak for cassettes was in 1990 when 442 million were sold. But cassettes were killed off and began the peak of the CD in 2000 before the digital revolution.
As of mid-August, music-related cassette album sales are up 46% from last year at 22,000 units sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Last year, they said, cassette album sales were at about 15,000.

Police: Some of the 5 killed in Indiana were shot
Citizens of Laurel, Indiana were in shock when the news reported that five people were shot in 2 different homes. Some of the victims were found in sparsely populated areas outside the town of Laurel, shot and autopsies were performed and then confirmed the cause of death was planned on Monday. The victims were one family, man, his ex-wife and their two adult children. Evelyn Renfro who lives near the scene of the crime said her 43-year-old nephew Henry Smith was killed. She said she heard gunfire around noon on Sunday. "Nobody went out because they were loading the cattle here and they didn't pay no attention to that," Renfro said. Evelyn and her grandson Ryan Renfro said there had been drug dealing in the normally peaceful neighborhood. She also said her nephew was not a member of the family who was killed.
An investigation has begun, two agencies are looking into the case. "We have five dead people and we're trying to find out how they died," said Sgt. Jerry Goodin, spokesman for the Indiana State Police. "Some of the victims had gunshot wounds, or what appear to be gunshot wounds." Police would not say if there had been any arrests but said for people in the area to be careful. "They should be vigilant," Goodin said. "They need to make sure they keep the doors locked. If they see any suspicious people, they should dial 911.”

Michael Vick's future isn't going to well for the Eagles
Michael Vick is complaining again about his late hits, but the Philadelphia Eagles are the ones taking the late hit. Three games into the season, it is clear that the Philadelphia Eagles had made the wrong choice for their quarterback. Vick might not be their guy, and will never be their guy, even with his $100-million contracts, Nike endorsements and video games. Vick can’t stay upright long enough for them to climb on his shoulders. He can’t stay on the field enough to lead them down it. Vick can’t stay healthy enough to make anyone other than his own team absolutely sick. This off-season is giving Vick a contract with a guaranteed $40 million. After three games this year, the Cardinals and Eagles are 1-2, with Kolb owning a 93.7 passer rating while Vick has thrown for a 87.7.
Where on Earth did the UARS fall? By: Marcella Marquez
The NASA’s Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite fell back to earth Saturday September 24th, but the questions was where did its pieces make landfall? The 6 ton satellite was caught on tape by sky gazers across the country. In Kahulu, Hawaii they saw a mysterious white streak in the sky, while in San Antonia Texas they saw what seemed to be shiny dust particles. Scientist tracking the 35 foot satellite said it fell back to Earth between 8:23 pm and 10:09 pm PT. The bus like satellite passed over the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans it also flew over Canada, Africa, and Australia. Yet experts cannot confirm the precise re-entry time and location of the dead satellite. “It’s most likely they will never know because it fell over an unpopulated area, where there was no one there to report for sure, and we have the last known tracking position from U.S. strategic command which was in the Pacific Northwest of the coast of North America, but it’s likely to have fallen somewhere between there and the Southwest of Australia” said Randy Kendall space debris expert at the Satellite tracking center in El Segundo California. As this massive satellite headed back to earth it began to disintegrate, 26 pieces were expected to fall down somewhere on earth on Saturday. Those pieces may have fallen into the ocean within a 30 by 500 mile debris field, said Kendall. Lucky so far there have been no reports of any damage, due to the space junk from the NASA’s UARS.

Lakers Ron Artest Officially Changes Name by Marcella Marquez
Los Angeles Lakers’ Ron Artest is now officially Metta World Peace reports ESPN. A quick hearing at the Los Angeles Superior Court last Friday made the name change official. According to World Peaces’ publicist, Courtney Barnes, he was not present at the ruling. Nahla Rajan his attorney represented her client to commissioner Matthew C. St. George. “[Rajan] walked up, the judge said, ‘We understand he wants to change his name and he wants to do it for personal reasons,’ and it was granted, “World Peace’s publicist, Courtney Barnes, told ESPN. “That was it. It was that quick.” Metta’s first request to change his name last month was postponed due to him not being able to pay an outstanding parking ticket. But earlier this month as he was waiting for the change, World Peace told Stephanie A. Smith on 710 ESPNLA “Metta is going to be the first name and it means like friendship, love and kindness. World Peace is going to be the last name, so everybody can get ready to buy their World Peace jerseys.” His 8-year-old daughter, Diamond, also wants to change her surname form Artest to World Peace. “Metta is a Buddhist term, and Barnes told the paper it took World Peace “years of research and soul-searching to find a first name that was both personally meaningful and inspirational,” says The Los Angeles Times.
Local News: What would you do at witnessing someone about to jump from the Coronado Bay Bridge? By Adriana Lugo
On Thursday, May 12, Bryan Knowlton, a 42-year-old resident of Kearny Mesa, left his real estate office near home and headed for Coronado, where he had an 11:00 a.m. appraisal appointment. As he headed towards the bridge he realized that the bridged was packed. "The traffic was backed up, and everybody was trying to get out of the right lane to go around a parked car. Driving by, I saw a lady looking over the wall, and there was a big bottle of wine on her hood and a smaller bottle of beer," Knowlton stated. Knowlton instantly ran out of his car to talk to this woman. He began to talk to her, but the only response he would receive was that her car broke down and that she was waiting for a tow truck. He went back to his car and called 911, asking for advice. When the police arrived, the woman panicked, threw the bottle of wine into the car and ran back towards the bridge wall. After a struggle, the lady finally turned herself in. They handcuffed her and took her away. The police, neighbors, and his family called him a hero and to many people of the community he was.

Headlight-flashing faces test as free speech in Florida By Ryan Bockmier
In December of 2009, a Florida resident named Erich Campbell was on the freeway near the Tampa International Airport. He saw two Florida state troopers and flashed his headlights to warn other drivers of the radar patrol. He was very surprised when he was pulled over and given a ticket for improper flashing of headlights. "Literally within one minute, they had me stopped on the side of the road," recalled Campbell, 38. This past August, Land O'Lakes, Florida, resident filed a class action lawsuit against highway patrol and state troopers. He wanted an injunction banning any law enforcement from using any headlight flashing tickets and refunds for damages to motorists caused by the tickets. Campbell's lawyer, J. Marc Jones, claims his client's First Amendment right to free speech was violated. "The flashing of lights to communicate with another driver is clearly speech," he said. "The First Amendment protects all sorts of non-verbal conduct; it protects more than the spoken or printed word," Hudson said. "Courts have found that a wide variety of actions — such as honking one's horn or flashing one's headlights are forms of communication under the First Amendment." Corrected by: Adriana Lugo
