Cop begged for one more bullet for himself after shooting girlfriend

In Lauderhill, Florida, Brittny Skinner and Kristopher Bieger both single parents, met in 2006, after Bieger was hired to join the force's road patrol where Skinner worked as a Lauderhill officer. Skinner and Bieger dated for a while, when just last week she broke it off. Officials say that that was the time when he tried to kill her, by emptying his .40-caliber pistol into her patrol car. As that night was coming to an end, Bieger begged fellow officers for just one more bullet so he could kill himself. Brittny Skinner's shirt and protective vest were left with bullet holes, she became traumatized and is on paid leave. Bieger is in jail on the charge of attempted-murder, is suspended without pay from his job.

Students of St. Mary's Move to a Cruise Ship by: Marcella Marquez

After an outbreak of mold, in two dorms of St. Mary’s College in Maryland students are relocated. The mold built up around ventilation pipes, from excess moisture after Hurricane Irene. This caused the dorms to be shutdown, and therefore made the students move to hotels miles from campus.  Then college officials began to look for safer and closer options. With the suggestion of a student they soon moved 239 students and Ms. Fitzgerald to the 286-foot cruise ship, the Sea Voyager.  Since the ship docked last Sunday it has attracted many students and visitors. Although the student have just moved in a week ago so to some delay. The students will be living on the ship until the semester is over, and their dorms on land have been cleaned completely. “The whole idea of a residential college is you don’t have to worry about where you live and where your next meal is coming from. You just study, and this has sort of interrupted that a little bit,” said Mr. Argo. After some complaints from student s and parent, who were worried of the relocating happening during midterm exams. Yet  many students seem excited about living on a cruise ship, even some of them who were not affected by the mold tried to get rooms in the new dormitory.  According to the NY times “The ship’s gift shop has been converted to an office for residence officials, the ballroom functions as a social lounge, and the pub as a coffee ship.” “It’s not super-extravagant, but it works,” said Ms. Fitzgerald. There are also some great advantages for the students, who get their linens and towels replaces twice a week. They also have laundry service, and share their bathroom with one other person as opposed to a whole floor of co-eds.

NBA rejects their owners

Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul rejected NBA owners' latest contract proposal, saying that they  had felt the "collective bargaining process has completely broken down" and serving a "disclaimer of interest" This mean this will put the 2011-2012 season in trouble when no one can not decide and finished the  deals and trade.  The players said they don't feel prepared  and also said it is unfair to give them a proposal or confront a rollback of 47%." There had been threats in the trade making things harder for the NBA. Now the NBA  players have been locked out for 138 days.

Last Monday the National Weather Service released a report saying a strong storm system produced six tornados in southwestern Oklahoma. There were no deaths or serious injuries reported on the storm outbreak. The report says that the twisters touched down between 2:45 and 5pm. It also says that the northwestern supercell produced the tornados over Oklahoma. Emergency responders said the Oklahoma State University extension office was heavily damaged and there was reported damage on trailers and farm equipment.
The 2011 tornado season has been the fourth deadliest in U.S. history. There were a total 549 deaths. The most deadly this year was the Joplin, Missouri tornado (May 22, 2011). With a total of 157 people losing their lives. It is ranked the 7th deadliest tornado in US history. It also may cost the state of Missouri upwards of 3 billion dollars to rebuild Joplin. The tornado was an EF5, which is the strongest and the most rare. Winds can reach 200 miles per hour and up. President Barack Obama toured the community on May 29, flying into Joplin Regional Airport and speaking at a memorial at the Taylor Performing Arts Center at Missouri Southern State University about two miles from the worst of the devastation.

Judge William Adams Wont be Charged for Beating by: Marcella Marquez

William Adams, a Texas family Judge who was videotaped by his daughter who he viscously beat won’t be facing criminal charges due to the 5 year statues of limitations. Hillary Adams 23, posted the 8 minute video on YouTube October 27, and it has over 5,821,939 views.  The 7 year old  video shows her father savagely lashing her with a belt, for downloading music and games. That were not available for legal purchase at the time. What makes matters worse is that Hillary has a disability called ataxic cerebral palsy form birth (damage in the cerebellum/brain). When asked why she waited 7 years to show the video, she responds that she was scared to do it while she lived under Adam’s roof. The judge’s wife is also seen in the video, what is surprising is that she does nothing about the situation and actually takes part in the beating. Hillary justifies this by saying (on the video description) that her mother “was emotionally abused herself and was severely manipulated into assisting the beating and should not be blamed for any content in this video… The judge's wife has since left the marriage due to the abuse, which continues to this day, and has sincerely apologized and repented for her part and for allowing such a thing, long before this video was even revealed to exist.” Hillary also adds “Judge William Adams is not fit to be anywhere near the law system if he can't even exercise fit judgment as a parent himself. Do not allow this man to ever be re-elected again. His "judgment" is a giant farce.”  William Adams 51, then responded with a three page statement, in which he claims “his daughter posted the clip to get back at him for telling her he would be reducing the amount of financial support he gives her and taking away her Mercedes,” (huffingtonpost.com). There was no apology in said statement, but he did tell television station KZTV  that the video "looks worse than it is, that he had already apologized to his daughter and that he was just disciplining his child for stealing,” (huffingtonpost.com) .  But while on the “Today” show Hillary said her father “regularly beat her for a period of time. has repeatedly said she didn't post the clip to spite her father, and that she hopes it forces him to seek help,” Hallie Adams also “blamed her ex-husband's bouts of violence on an "addiction." She called it a "family secret," but declined to elaborate,” (huffingtonpost.com). Currently Judge Williams is being investigated by the state's judicial conduct commission and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. This is because all though Hillary is an adult, her10 year old sister could be at risk.

Waterbury Vt. still trying to recover from Irene

When Irene came and dumped what seemed like a huge amount of rain New England residents of the town. Nobody was prepared for the floods powers.
On the afternoon of August 28 2011 the floodwaters rose so quickly that people were forced to leave their homes and get to higher ground. When they came back they found water in their basements and the houses ruined by spilled heating oil.
More than two hundred houses were destroyed, about a third of the total homes destroyed in Vermont by Irene.
The smell is now gone and most homeowners are ready to build again. But there is a problem. Most homeowners don’t have flood insurance because floods are very rare in Vermont (last one was in 1927). Most families will not be able to afford getting their houses repaired.Steve and Amy Odefey are among the very fortunate. They had flood insurance on their 100-year-old house.
"I'll be a lot happier writing the premium check now," Steve Odefey says.
But the insurance will not cover the cost of their personal belongings. Also they will need to replace more parts in their house that the insurance will not cover.
After the floods went away, roads and bridges were rebuilt really quickly. But rebuilding homes takes a lot longer because you have to deal with permits and personal belongings, says Chris Nordle, a member of ReBuild Waterbury, a non-profit formed to help rebuild the town.
"When you're talking about 200 homeowners in a village of a couple thousand, you've got 200 little mini disaster-management programs going on," he says. "That's one of the things I have a hard time getting my head around."

High gas prices ruining Obama's re-election hopes

Gas prices have been rising and affecting not just Americans finances but the attitude towards the economy with it, it affects Obama's re-elections probability. ABC News posted a poll asking Americans opinions on the gas price increase. With gas prices up 26%; $3.88 a gallon, 7 in 10 Americans reported that they were having a financial hardship, 56% reported no hardship. 6 in 10 Americans say that they have decided to cut back on driving. Langer Research Associates, creators of the poll, found the president's job approval rating 13 points lower in the midst of people who said the gas prices are causing them hardship. Among 4 in 10 Americans feel serious hardship, only 39% of them approve of Obama's work. 53% of people who felt hardship said they will definitely now vote for Obama next year. Political support usually depends on economic performance, that is where the increase in gas prices are taking place. The number of Americans who say the economy is getting worse have doubled this year to 44% and is slowly rising to 54%.
